Screen shot 2014-01-27 at 12.25.17 PMMaybe I’m projecting, or doing one of those other psychological things. But why is that sweet puppy alone all the damn time?

Is there no dog in the entire SFShiba household who can be trusted with little Hiro? I want to call him Hachi, since everybody around him seems to have died. The little pup is good-natured about it; he wanders outside, rearranges himself in his bed, looks for bugs and squirrels and birds, and then he lies down and waits and waits.

Where are all the shibaholics and their concerns? And their dogs? Can’t there be a playmate now and then? It would be one thing if he were with other dogs all day, but there he is in the room that now seems sterile and lonely.

I can’t help but think of all the scoldings, rants, lectures I and a few others got about how to raise our dogs.  There was a right way (the SFSHiba way) and a wrong way (all other ways).  Puppies need to be socialized, and socialized and socialized, especially shiba puppies who were deemed such special dogs that they needed extra-special treatment.  Brown rice and chicken, plenty of toys, socialize and socialize and don’t have any unruly kids around who will leave the door open.

I don’t get why a person would bring a dog across the Pacific from Japan so he could languish in a white room by himself for 18 hours a day.  I don’t care what the other circumstances are.  I can’t stand to watch, and that’s something I thought I would never say about the puppycam.  Too bad. It seems like the end of an era. A sad end.
